On the first of November Crann Tara were kindly invited to ”TARGE 08” the annual Wargames exhibition organised by Kirriemuir Wargames Club. Club and Societies have travelled as far south as Kirlees in Yorkshire to be part of the biggest gathering north of Scotland’s central belt.
Crann Tara members were on hand to demonstrate historical replicas weapons, educate on Scottish history and the work that Crann Tara does throughout the year with commemoration days and school visits.
The Wargames are all researched extensively to be historically correct and amazingly reproduced with miniatures and terrain, a great deal can be learned in an entertaining way. Crann Tara even participated in the “Relief of Orleans” and won the day for Joan of Arc, which was heart warming as Scottish troops (Guard Ecossaise) were actually present at this Battle. The day passed all too quickly and closed with the annual prize giving ceremony. The Finance secretary and North Tayside MSP John Swinney did the honour of presenting the prizes. This year Kirriemuir Wargames Club awarded a new trophy to a lucky winner. A full size handmade Targe professionally constructed by our own “Rab the Targemaker”. A fitting trophy for a great Scottish event.
Crann Tara would like to thank Dale D. Smith for inviting us, John Swinney and everyone who attended for making this day a great success. I would recommend this event to everyone. Next year, bring your children along, learn, play and have a great day.
