18-04-2009 RUSTY'S REBEL MARCH

After the Gaelic service on Culloden battlefield, we mustered in Tomatin, at Donald and Rusty Mc Caskill’s house for a wee dram, a blather and a 6 miles walk across the hills to a cairn built to commemorate the 5 men of Moy. If you do not know this story, do look it up, 5 heroes repelled an entire British detachment of a 1500 troops sent to Lady Mc Kintosh residence to arrest Prince Charles Eduard Stuart. Thanks to the ingenuity and courage of those 5 men the Prince escaped safely.
The weather was glorious and the march easy going. Grouses took flight at our approach. Connor and James lead the way, leaving signs made of branches for us to follow the correct path. The 2 boys came in first in record time, this walk is for all, and young and old-er took part. We were joined on the walk by a new crann tara member Seamus, young in age but he did the walk like a true Hi’lander.
Refreshments were welcomed at the Arrival point and we would like to thank all those involved in organising the catering. At the cairn, we gathered for  patriotic speeches and a fantastic display by Freddy and his stringed mini highlander Angus.
The kids loved it and so did the grown ups, even the dog tried his chance with Angus but the stringed puppet prevailed.
The evening drew to a close , some stayed for drinks round the fire, others headed for the Tomatin-inn for an evening of celebration with our friends of the Saints and Sinners MC.
