On Saturday the 29th of July a commemoration march took place in the Perthshire hills culminating with a short service in St Brides Church in the grounds of Blair Castle. The reason ? was to commemorate the anniversary on the Battle of Killicrankie which had taken place in 1689. These modern day Jacobites of the Crann Tara group followed the route of "Bonnie Dundee's "army, as he marched his army through the hills to outflank the forces of General Mackay. The battle itself ended in a memorable victory for the Jacobite forces however just at his moment of glory Dundee was killed. It was a defining moment in Scottish history and the whole outcome of the country could have been so different if Dundee had lived to lead the Jacobite forces. Following the march Crann Tara gathered at the spot where many of the dead are believed to be buried .Wreaths were laid and prayers were said before they made their way to Blair Castle with pipes playing and banners flying to Dundee's tomb where another prayer was said. In the evening there was entertainment in Blair Atholl village hall from Scottish folk group Schiltrum and an unexpected performance from the rising stars of Celtic music Albannach fresh from their success at Grandfather Mountain. Crann Tara events coordinator pronounced the day a great success and hoped that events such as this will continue to raise the awareness of Scots in their fascinating history
