Crann Tara were out in force in the Angus Glens on Sunday the 8th of April. The reason for this was the handing over of Forfarshire Ogilvys banner to the Earl of Airlie in Clova kirk. A group made up of members of Crann Tara, SNG and Na Fir Dileas marched up the hill overlooking the Glen to recreate the march back to the glen and the disbanding of the regiment. Hillwalkers seemed suprised to see our kilted group carrying various banners making their way up and then down the hill. The group was met at the bottom of the hill by the Earl and we carried on to the kirk this time with a large entourage.
In the kirk a number of speeches were made. one by Crann Tara member Brendan McCabe spoke about the history of the regiment and the ordinary men who were involved, Brendan drew parallels with the final resting place of the Prince and how these men had been scattered. The Earl of Airlie spoke about the family history and his ancestor who had raised the regiment. Niall from the SNG then delivered a speech which included the words delivered by Lord Airlie when the regiment was disbanded, many there commented on how his words were very relevent to the situation Scotland is in today.
Pats on the back have to go to Bruce Ogilvie and Alison Falconer for their work in bringing the day together .The sad irony was that Bruce could not be there due to his work commitments in Africa, however he was mentioned at the handover. The handover ceremony was followed by a weapons display which was very well received by the public. |
