01-08-2009 ABOYNE HIGHLAND GAMES

Crann Tara attended Aboyne Highhland Games for the first time. What a great venue this was with thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The Crann Tara marquee was well visited and there was s great interest in the arms display, many folk wanting to hear about the many weapons on display and the children having photos taken with a sword and targe. The whole crew from the group were talking to Brazilians, Americans, Canadians, Dutch, Germans, French, Mexicans, Germans, Japanese, Australians, Kiwis, Polish and of course the many Scots that were also amongst the crowds. It was a long day but we all were kept very busy. The shop was well frequented as well.

There were numerous pipe bands on show and of course the many attributes of a Highland Games including dancing, piping, and a massive tug of war event along with the normal sports that go with a games.

Trade tents were in abundance and it formed a wee village where you could buy almost everything, it was our first but won't be our last time at the games as it was a great day out.

Thankfully after a few heavy showers in the morning the weather turned for the better and we had a very pleasant sunny afternoon.
