Welcome to Crann Tara

Crann Tara derives from the Gaelic for Fiery Cross, the reasons behind the name and the symbol can be seen on our history page. It was decided from this history that it would be the appropriate name for the group as it is also part of our aim to bring like minded people together. As Crann Tara, our aims and objectives include preserving and maintaining the history, culture and heritage of Scotland, passing on the knowledge in the hope that it will keep the country in safe hands. The group was formed in the wake of the 700th anniversary of William Wallace's murder in London, 23rd of August 2005. From this time we have been striving to inspire and re-kindle the passions within those who have either had, or have Scotland's interests close to their heart.

Crann Tara is also about, rallying or uniting with those who are interested in the history, heritage and culture of Scotland and who believe it is something worth preserving. Crann Tara believes that by bringing the history alive and taking it to a wider audience they can help maintain and preserve it, perhaps even resulting in making Scotland as a nation stronger.
We have members and links worldwide, with a wide range of interests from the Picts and Celts, Bruce and Wallace, Montrose and Claverhouse to the Jacobites as well as the Gaelic Language and Piping.

We regularly take an active part in a wide range of events, such as Commemorations, Highland Games, Tartan Days and Re-enactments not only across Scotland, but in other countries as well, such as Italy, England, France, Spain, Ireland and America. We like to travel to countries that have Scottish connections in particular and are always willing to promote the Scottish culture, history and heritage anywhere worldwide. We are a non political or religious group who only hold but one allegiance, to that of Scotland.

Crann Tara membership is open to anyone who has Scotland’s best interest at heart. Even though you reside in a country out with Scotland and think that there is no point of becoming a member, see other ways in which you, your group or business can support, promote or link with Crann Tara and become associated with the real Scotland. See the membership page under FAQ for requirements and details.

If you have any questions about Crann Tara or would like us to attend one or more of your events please contact the events co-ordinator with your requirements and contact details for further discussion, anything will be considered regardless of what it is, schools, highland games, festivals etc. As you may have seen The Crann Tara website has a wealth of information, if anyone has any additional factual information which could be added to the website, or perhaps you even have knowledge of places of interest, please contact us.
