| 11-02-2007 GLENCOE COMMEMORATION |
| On Sunday 11 th of February a commemoration took place to mark the 315th anniversary of the Glencoe Massacre, an event which in Scottish history is well remembered for the way in which the plan and the execution of the MacDonalds of Glencoe was carried out . A large contingent from various groups put aside their differences and joined together to pay tribute to MacDonalds who were ruthlessly massacred on the cold winter morning at 5am on the 13 th of February 1692. The procession was lead by a lone piper, followed by all the various clan and group banners and flags to the MacDonald monument at the top of the Glencoe village. The service was well attended and lasted for about half an hour, speeches, wreaths and flowers were lain as a mark of respect. A lament was played as the ashes of Dave Leadbetter, a life long patriot were scattered. The service ended with everyone being invited back to Balloch to be entertained by the Pipes and Drums of Celtic band Albannach. |
